Hungary needs new foreign policy, says PM

Hungary's foreign strategy needs to be reconsidered, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány said in Parliament on Monday.
The prime minister said abstract and distant objectives should be replaced by the direct representation of the country's cultural, scientific and business interests. He added that foreign relations should focus on ties between institutions and human relationships rather than on traditional interstate ties.
“Hungary has a responsibility to support regional stability as a progressive force and to use its influence to further understanding,” Gyurcsány said talking about Hungary's European role. Hungary also has an obligation to help other countries in their efforts to become members of European Union, the prime minister said.
