Hungarian PM says reforms are “biggest challenge”
The current reforms are the biggest challenge Hungary has faced since late 1980s, Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány said Thursday, the second day of a road show to popularize his party’s position, the MTI News Agency reported.
Addressing a crowd of about 1,000 people, Gyurcsány said his party was writing history by shaping the country into what his predecessors had only dreamed of a thriving and developing European land. The Prime Minister said 2010, the election year, would be a “historical part of the road.”
Gyurcsány said his administration would follow through with its disputed health care reform. In the end, people will say that “although it was hard to get it off the ground, it was worth it,” he said. “I want to be useful, not popular,” said Gyurcsány, whose popularity is currently quite low. “And if I really am useful, sooner or later I’ll be popular, too.” (people.com)
