Hungary’s Minister of Agriculture Sándor Fazekas met Japan’s Deputy Farm Minister Hiromichi Matsushima at the Grune Woche farm expo in Berlin on Friday to discuss cooperation between the two coutries, Hungarian news agency MTI reported today.

According to the news agency, the two parties discussed collaborating in the research of cherry varieties and fast-growing rice, and also agreed on the establishment of a joint gene bank and on cooperation in veterinary education for the benefit of both countries.

Japan is Hungaryʼs biggest market in Asia for farm exports, MTI said, adding that exports to Japan of pork from mangalitsa hogs, a prized Hungarian breed, came to €100 million last year.
