EU research institute in Budapest, Hungary
The competent ministers of the European Union unanimously decided on Budapest to become the seat of the European Innovation and Technology Institute (EIT).
The decision will enable the institute to become the engine of the EU’s efforts to excel in innovation and science, said Slovenian science minister Mojca Kucler Dolinar. By the Wednesday final vote, only Poland was running against Hungary for the seat.
According to an earlier announcement of National Development and Economy Minister Gordon Bajnai the institute would be housed in Infopark as the most ideal site. Winning the EIT competition is the acknowledgement of Hungarian scientific achievements and the trust in the country’s future development, said Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány. The Prime Minister considered the decision a large step towards a science based society and a developed Hungary. (Napi Gazdaság, Gazdasági Rádió, Népszava)
