László Palkovics, Hungary's Minister of Technology and Industry, has resigned, according to a report by news site Telex.

Telex learned from several independent sources that staff at the ministry have already been informed at the departmental level about the change.

The departure could be due to differences of opinion on energy policy. According to the report, Prime Minister Viktor Orbán wants to create a separate Ministry of Energy because of the energy crisis.

News agency MTI wrote on Wednesday afternoon that the Prime Minister's Office released a statement addressing the reports of Palkovics's resignation.

"The prime minister decides on the members of the government. If changes to the cabinet take place, we will inform the public," the office said.
