Background talks on raising the minimum wage this year are underway, with the hope there will be progress on this issue at Friday's hearing, writes leading economic daily Világgazdaság.

Imre Palkovics, president of the National Association of Workers' Councils, told the newspaper that there are fault lines between the six organizations involved in the negotiations, but they are working to reach an agreement as soon as possible.

The president also stressed that a formula had been developed that would have determined the increase in the minimum wage taking into account the rate of GDP and inflation, but this was rejected by the parties.
