Hungary bans U.K. flights

Government

Hungary will ban flights from the United Kingdom from midnight on Monday, the deputy head of the operations center of the Operative Corps, the body coordinating Hungary's response to the pandemic, said at a press conference, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

Róbert Kiss said the ban applies to corporate aircraft as well as to commercial flights. Cargo deliveries will continue, he added.

The announcement was made after a possibly more infectious strain of the coronavirus was detected in the United Kingdom.

Curfew to be temporarily lifted on Christmas Eve

Kiss said Hungary will temporarily lift an overnight curfew to contain the spread of the coronavirus on Christmas Eve. The 10-person limit on family gatherings and private functions will not include children under the age of 14 for the evening, he added.
