Gov't Raises Tax-free per Diem Threshold for Haulers
The government has raised the tax-free per diem threshold for haulers, the Economic Development Ministry said on Monday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.
The government raised the per diem threshold for domestic routes from HUF 3,000 to HUF 9,000 and for foreign routes from EUR 60 to EUR 85.
In a joint statement issued later on Monday, Hungarian haulers' associations MKFE and NiT Hungary acknowledged the government measure as a "strategic decision".
MKFE chairman Zsolt Barna said the increase of the per diem threshold was discussed, along with other matters, at talks with industry insiders coordinated by the Economic Development Ministry.
NiT Hungary president László Füle said the increase is of "key significance" with a view to preserving the competitiveness of local haulers.
