Hungary's government has mandated the signing of a strategic cooperation agreement with China's Fudan University, a resolution published in the latest issue of the official gazette Magyar Közlöny shows.
The resolution instructs the government commissioner in charge of establishing a campus for Fudan University in Hungary to organize the signing of the agreement in the name of the government.
The government decided days earlier that Innovation and Technology Minister László Palkovics would act as government commissioner in the matter.
In February, Hungary's and China's ministries in charge of higher education signed a memorandum of understanding on cooperating to establish Fudan University's campus in Budapest. In the MoU, the ministries agreed to support the establishment of a "world-class, research-oriented university active in many areas of education" in Budapest.
The National Bank of Hungary (MNB) signed a cooperation agreement with Fudan University in 2017, and the pact on setting up the campus was signed by Palkovics in 2019.
More than 30,000 students are enrolled at Shanghai-based Fudan University which placed 34th in the latest annual QS World University Ranking.
