Gov't guarantees at HUF 3.509 tln in 2019

Hungarian government guarantees came to HUF 3.509 trillion at the end of 2019, equivalent to 7.39% of GDP, according to data compiled by EU statistical agency Eurostat.

Government guarantees relative to GDP rose from 5.09% in 2018 and 4.99% in 2017. In a regional comparison, government guarantees in the Czech Republic came to just 0.16% of GDP, while the rate was 1.18% in Poland 0.01% in Slovakia.

Government guarantees are the most common form of contingent liabilities in EU member states. Hungary's off-balance public-private partnerships (PPPs) stood at the equivalent of 1.13% of GDP in 2019.
