The government says it has already paid out HUF 35 billion of some HUF 35.5 bln in wage support for workers in the tourism and catering sectors, state secretary István György said this week, according to mandiner.hu.
György noted that new rules have expedited the transfer of the wage support. The support is going to around 15,000 businesses, he added.
The government offered to cover half of the gross wages of businesses that have been hit the hardest by the pandemic as it tightened restrictions and introduced a curfew in November. It also exempted those businesses from payroll tax, effectively subsidizing two-thirds of payroll costs.
The deadline for submitting applications for the four months of subsidies was Monday (February 8).
