PM falls behind rival in poll

Elections

Hungarian Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány is lagging behind his main rival, Fidesz Party Chairman Viktor Orbán, according to a November Szonda Ipsos survey, daily Népszabadság reported. Gyurcsány lost 2 points since the previous poll in October, sliding to the sixth place among the country's active politicians, while Orbán held the fifth position, the newspaper reported, citing its survey of 1,500 Hungarians November 14-21. Hungary's largest opposition party Fidesz increased its lead over Gyurcsány's governing Socialist Party, pollster Gallup said November 24. Support for Fidesz rose to 29% from 27% among eligible voters in November and the number of Socialist voters fell to 24% from 25%, Gallup said. National elections will be held in April or May, according to Hungarian law.
