Czomba to negotiate in Dunaferr deal

National Economy Minister Mihály Varga, who had been tasked with negotiating in a potential government buyout of ISD Dunaferr steelworks in Dunaújváros, announced yesterday that this position would be filled by Economy Ministry State Secretary for Employment Sándor Czomba.

Talks with Dunaferr owners began last week in advance of the company’s implementing 1,500 layoffs.

The suggested relief plan for Dunaferr jobs, i.e. a government takeover or “deprivatization” of the plant, got the official go-ahead late last week, with National Economy Minister Mihály Varga contacting ISD Dunaferr CEO Evgeny Tankhilevich to introduce his standing as lead negotiator and inform of the government’s intent to purchase.

Producing journalism that is worthy of the name is a costly business. For 27 years, the publishers, editors and reporters of the Budapest Business Journal have striven to bring you business news that works, information that you can trust, that is factual, accurate and presented without fear or favor.

We would like to offer that same opportunity to our readers. We would like to invite you to help us deliver the quality business journalism you require. Hit our Support the BBJ button and you can choose the how much and how often you send us your contributions.
