Complaint seeks media authority probe of Simicska
The National Media and Infocommunications Authority of Hungary (NMHH) could investigate the Friday transaction in which media oligarch Lajos Simicska bought out Gábor Liszkay, the former editor-in-chief of Magyar Nemzet who had shares in the paper and Hír TV, for approximately HUF 100 mln, Hungarian daily origo.hu reported today.
Simicska bought out the shares that Liszkay was holding in the two companies, when Liszkay chose to quit the Magyar Nemzet just hours after Simicska declared a "media war" against the ruling Fidesz party.
Fidesz member István Tényi filed a civilian complaint with the NMHH to investigate the transaction due to "changes in ownership" and in order to "prevent concentration of the media market".
Tényi earlier filed official reports to the police involving the facebook groups organizing demonstrations against the internet tax and tax chief Ildikó Vida last year.
