Almost 64,000 hectares of state-owned land offered for lease

The National Land Management Fund Organization (NFA) has called tenders to lease almost 64,000 hectares of state-owned land to family farmers, Rural Development Ministry state secretary Gyula Budai said on Thursday. With the tenders, the government aims to raise the proportion of land farmed by smallholders from 50% to 80%. Budai confirmed that about 200,000 hectares of state-owned farm land would be leased to smallholders by 2017.
