Áder has pardoned only two convicts so far this year
Hungary’s President János Áder had pardoned only two people by the end of June this year, while two years ago 24 and last year 22 individuals were pardoned through the whole year, according to a summary by the Ministry of Justice, Hungarian daily Magyar Hírlap.
According to data from the ministry, since 2002 various presidents have made pardon decisions in 15,004 cases, out of which 14,697 were rejected, index.hu reported. By 2008, more than 1,000 convicted individuals requested pardon annually, although since then the numbers have stayed below 1,000 per year.
The average “pardoning figure” is around 2% per year, according to the data of the ministry, however in 2016 the figure peaked at 4.5%. In 2010 and 2014, however, the pardoning average did not reach 1%.
