On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of IT Solution Provider FexiTon, the Budapest Business Journal conducted an exclusive interview with CEO László Árvay on the past quarter century.

Q: When was the firm founded and what was the first project it developed?

The company founded by private individuals in 1990, with the majority of them originating from Videoton, while most of the key employees also joined FlexiTon from Videoton. The company is currently private and independent.

In the founding year, the first project was the development of DXX network management system for Martis (later Tellabs), with the involvement of 13 FlexiTon engineers were working on the project.

Starting in 1993, FlexiTon had several big projects that were linked to the deregulation on the Hungarian telecom market. As the result of privatization, new operators were established by new investors. FlexiTon became strategic partners for those during their network rollout projects in processing digital maps of thousands of square kilometre areas, later in digitising their as-built documentations and developing software solutions for their customer relationship management tasks.

Q: When did you start developing Ariadne? How would you briefly describe the product family?

The mentioned early steps in network rollout projects lead to developing a solution for network inventory tasks. We introduced the product brand Ariadne in 1994, when the first member of the product family was issued: ARIADNE/ANM, a network inventory and capacity management of telephone networks.

The name Ariadne is a reference to King Minos’ daughter in Greek mythology, who helped Theseus by giving him a spool of thread to defeat the Minotaur in the labyrinth.

FlexiTon is dedicated to help the telecommunication network operators by implementing our ARIADNE Product Family based solutions and by providing data services to find their way in the labyrinth of telecommunication and to defeat their Minotaur, i.e. high costs, inefficiency, bad quality service, too large organisation, etc. We still have the same mission with the different new members of the product family.

Q: What solutions does Ariadne product family offer?

Members of Ariadne product family offer OSS (Operating Support Solutions) for operators of different telecom networks, like copper, optical and mobile and full range of the available technology platforms including IP. Industry-leading network inventory, capacity management, network planning and optimization functions are offered for the users.

Q: What makes FlexiTon unique/competitive in the Hungarian market?

Some of FlexiTon’s competitors are represented in the Hungarian market through re-sellers and integrators, however FlexiTon as solution developer is unique in the Hungarian market with the Ariadne family. Our GIS products and services also represent the top category in terms of quality and value for money. Majority of the Hungarian telco operators has been customers of FlexiTon. We are innovative, reliable and flexible partner of our customers.

FlexiTon delivers turnkey projects including the off-the-shelf solution, custom development, system integration, data migration, project services and after sales support service.

Q: What are the most significant partnerships FlexiTon has engaged in?

FlexiTon has been in partnership with Bentley since 1995. The GIS platform of FlexiTon products has been Bentley since then, while we are re-seller of the Bentley product portfolio in the Hungarian market.

2006 - FlexiTon started to co-operate with ctNova, a UK-based company. CellTracker roll-out management solution became part of the FlexiTon product portfolio. The co-operation resulted in establishing CellTracker Center of Excellence in 2014 in Budapest for managing CellTracker projects.

Q: What are FlexiTon’s latest developments and projects?

The newest member of the ARIADNE product family appeared this year, entitled ARIADNE/NetAnalyst, which is a tool for middle-term planning  and optimizing  the available transport network capacities and new investments.

Also, this year we started a project at our top customer, upgrading the solution that was delivered more than 10 years ago and has been in operation for satisfaction of our customer since then.

FlexiTon has developed solutions for other utility sectors mainly operated by municipalities, like water and remote heating.

Q: What are the short-term goals of FlexiTon? What are the long-term goals?

Similar or even more successful presence on the market for the next 25 years, as it has been during the first 25 years. Strong and reliable partnership with our customers. Successes for our customers, shareholders and employees. We believe the new Ariadne product and the services built on that can be introduced on the market early next year and will be the basis for our future growth.

Q: Is there anything you would like to add?

FlexiTon has executed different projects in 29 countries across Europe, Africa and Asia. Our GIS factory has processed satellite images for 15 million square km across the globe.
