Budapest Mayor István Tarlós has announced that the central government will match HUF 800 million in funding that will support the upgrade of a 15-kilometer stretch of the EuroVelo 6 cycle route that runs between the center of the capital and its northern edge, news site napi.hu reported.

The other HUF 800 mln has been allocated by the Municipality of Budapest. The upgrade could be undertaken in 2019 and 2020. The EuroVelo 6 route runs from the Atlantic coast in France to the Black Sea.

Máriusz Révész, ministerial commissioner in charge of "Active Hungary," said the second phase of the project will involve the construction of the cycle path stretches from Rajka (181 km northwest of the capital, close to the Hungarian border) to Budapest, and from Budapest to Lake Balaton, napi.hu reported.
