Direct Budapest-Shanghai flights to start next year
The Hungarian and Chinese sides have reached agreement to start direct flights for passengers and cargo between Budapest and Shanghai from next summer, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Tuesday, according to state news wire MTI.

Szijjártó met with Chinaʼs Minister of Foreign Affairs Wang Yi in New York on the sidelines of the ongoing session of the United Nations General Assembly.
Speaking about the planned upgrade of the Belgrade-Budapest rail line, Szijjártó said two consortiums were still in the running for the project, both with Hungarian and Chinese members. Prices and technical details are still under discussion, but these are set for completion in October and a contract could be signed with a winner this year for the project to conclude by 2023, he added.
Szijjártó also said that Hungarian poultry exports to China can resume as Chinese authorities have agreed that Hungary is now free of avian flu.
The foreign minister added that Hungary, along with Germany and the United Kingdom, would be a guest of honor at the China International Import Expo which is being organized for the first time this November 5-10 in Shanghai.
