Study: Hungarian passport 26th most powerful
Hungarian passports were ranked 26th out of the 51 countries surveyed based on the number of countries an individual with a passport can travel to without applying for a visa as well as the cost of the document, The Independent reported yesterday based on a study by GoEuro.
Hungarians can get visa-free access to a total of 162 countries, ranking it 26th, behind Czech Republic, Slovakia and Slovenia. Citizens of Czech Republic can access 162 countries without a visa, as in Hungary, however, Czech citizens needs to work on average 11 hours to pay an equivalent of £17 for the official document, while Hungarians need to work 23 hours to acquire a passport for £34.
Sweden was rated as having the most powerful passport with access to 174 countries visa-free for a fee of £28 that would only require on average one hour of work to purchase. In Liberia, rated 49th, a citizen needs to work 278 hours – the highest on the list – to earn enough money to buy a passport, which grants visa-free access to 48 countries for a price tag of £33.
