Nearly 700,000 Romanians have total overdue debts

The number of Romanians with debts more than 30 days overdue amounted to nearly 700,000 at the end of March this year, with total debts to financial institutions and non-bank financial institutions of some €2.3 billion – one-third higher than in the same period last year, Romania-Insider reported citing data provided by the country’s central bank. However, the total number of overdue debts continued to decline, reaching the minimum level of the last year, of 962,366, the business site wrote. According to the National Bank of Romania, the average value of an overdue debt was some €2,400 in March this year. The total debts in foreign currency represented one third of the population’s total payment delays. Over the past year, the fastest growth rate of 37% was recorded for loans in euro, reaching the value of some €920 million at the end of March this year.
