Metrans to build HUF 15.7 bln container terminal in Zalaegerszeg

Logistics

Metrans, a unit of German logistics group HHLA, will build a HUF 15.7 billion container terminal in Zalaegerszeg (182 km southwest of Budapest), Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Péter Szijjártó said on Friday, according to a report by state news wire MTI.

The government is supporting the investment, which will create 120 jobs, with a HUF 3.9 bln grant, he noted.

The container terminal will be used for deliveries from the ports of Koper, Rijeka, and Trieste, on the Adriatic, bound for Hungary, Slovakia, the Czech Republic, and Poland, the minister added.

At present, 12-14 Metrans trains pass by Zalaegerszeg every day.

Metrans group chairman-CEO Péter Kiss said the company would work hard to start construction of the terminal this year and projected a multi-phase opening from 2023. Zalaegerszeg will play a "key role" on the Adriatic corridor, he added.

Metrans opened a container terminal in Budapest in 2017.
