Consumer/business confidence index up for November
The GKI-Erste combined consumer-business confidence index rose to -6.1 points in November from -9.3 in October as the outlook for both companies and households improved.The business confidence index improved one-tenth of a point to -2.2 in November, a level not seen since the spring of 2011.
Expectations improved markedly in the industrial sector but were little changed among other businesses.
Industrial companies were more optimistic about production and stock of orders, with the exception of export orders.
Among construction companies, the assessment of activity in the previous three months improved, but the companies reported lower order stock.
Trade companies said inventories were up and were more optimistic about the outlook for orders.
The consumer confidence index improved to -23.3 points in November from -29.4 points in October. Households’ outlook for the economy as a whole improved, and fears of unemployment waned. More saw the chance to make big-ticket purchases.
The GKI-Erste confidence index is adjusted for seasonal effects and prepared with the support of the European Union.
