Traveling abroad, Hungarians pay more with bank cards

Hungarians made HUF 225.6 billion of purchases with their bank cards abroad last year, up more than 20% from a year earlier, business daily Világgazdaság said on Tuesday, citing data from the National Bank of Hungary (MNB).

The number of the purchases rose 27.4% to 14.5 million.

Hungarians made 1.4 million cash withdrawals with their bank cards abroad, taking out a combined HUF 64.3 billion. The number of transactions was up 10%, while the amount withdrawn climbed 17.4%.

An earlier survey by MasterCard shows 85% of Hungarians traveling abroad exchange money before traveling abroad.
