Navracsics officially quits foreign ministry

EU

Hungary’s foreign minister Tibor Navracsics has officially resigned from his post. He will pursue his career in Brussels, where he has been appointed as commissioner for education, culture, youth and citizenship by Jean-Claude Juncker, president-elect of the European Commission.

Before taking up their posts, newly appointed commissioners have to go through a parliamentary hearing. Navrasics’ hearing by the Committee of Culture of the European parliament is scheduled for October 1st, 2014. Juncker’s nominations have been criticized by some MEPs. Committees have the power to reject nominees.

The European Parliament is expected to vote on the newly appointed commissioners on October 22.
