There is still a huge labor shortage – approximately 22,000 people – on the ever changing IT market. R&D and AI centers are opening, digital transformation is happening within companies in all sectors, new positions and technologies are appearing, and salaries are further booming: these are the trends and expectations for the rest of 2018 as well.
The perception towards the IT profession itself is also significantly changing. More people are developing into this area with different backgrounds and at different ages. Children are now not just playing with computer and mobile games, they seek to understand the logic behind them and start learning programming at a really young age. Students at the age of 18 are more open to choose to study IT and continue their education in this direction. People with engineering, finance, marketing and sales backgrounds are eager to invest money and a lot of time to drop their previous profession and start their career as a software developer.
Though there is growing interest, it can still nowhere near match the number of experienced IT professionals needed to fill the open positions present on the market. And the race for the best people is getting tougher.
This year’s key buzzwords are cloud based solutions, machine learning/deep learning, AI, data science, and IoT (internet of things). If a company is opening up a new business or an existing company is starting a new division with these areas involved, they can more easily get the attention of the IT people.
We continually hear about the number of the open positions, the SW developers we are lacking and the areas that are suffering most from the shortage, but we hear less often about how good the people who we have here in Hungary are. Top programmers, world famous Hungarian start-ups, successful green field projects are all present on the Hungarian market and the success stories are sure to be continued.
This is an exciting field with seemingly limitless opportunities. One way or another, IT is here in our everyday life and it will continuously create new jobs and ensure career development for the professionals working within this field.
