Pandemic accelerates cloud migration plans

Salesforce, a global leader in CRM systems, has published the Trends in Manufacturing report, which summarizes the far-reaching effects of the global pandemic in the sector. The report shows that companies have had to change their strategies and operating models, overcome the difficulties of transformation, and new technologies have helped them successfully compete in the market under conditions of constant uncertainty.
Salesforce Research conducted a study involving nearly 750 global leaders in the manufacturing sector from North and Latin America, the Far East, and Europe. Two groups were distinguished among the respondents: producers prepared for the future, who believe that their systems and technologies will be able to operate for another 10 years, and producers unprepared for the future, who do not see such a possibility.
As many as 80% of respondents stated that their production capacity has changed slightly or significantly as a result of the pandemic, while 70% believe that the changes will be permanent.
Manufacturing sector leaders say digital transformation will be their priority over the next 24 months. When asked to indicate their most important goals, respondents stated that the most urgent changes relate to increasing the efficiency of processes and streamlining demand planning (88% in both cases), while the most helpful in the current situation was digital transformation (86%).
Manufacturers who feel "very well prepared" for the decade to come have largely moved to the cloud. Almost half (45%) of manufacturers who do not feel prepared for the future have sales systems and operating systems installed entirely or mostly locally, while the majority (77%) of future-ready manufacturers have at least half of their sales and systems installed operational in the cloud.
