Socialists address economy minister on Quaestor compensation write-off
László Szakács, a member of the opposition and of the parliamentary subcommittee in charge of investigating the Quaestor scandal, addressed Hungary’s National Economy Minister Mihály Varga at a press conference yesterday about why failed boutique brokerage Quaestorʼs financial obligations are being written off, Hungarian news agency MTI reported.
Szakács said that procedures to wind down the company began on July 9. Yet despite Fidesz promising in April that Quaestorʼs clients would be compensated within three months, he says the government has used delay tactics, and now the bankrupted companyʼs financial obligations to it clients, including the central bank, are being forgiven.
Socialistʼs deputy leader, Zoltán Gőgös, said at the press conference that his party wants to offer support to Quaestor clients some of which were demonstrating outside the central bank, where the press conference was held.
