Force, and ticket sales strong in new Star Wars movie
As it has done worldwide, the latest episode in the Star Wars franchise, entitled “The Force Awakens”, broke several box office records in Hungary during its premiere this weekend, according to reports.
The movie attracted 282,265 viewers over three days in Hungary, generating HUF 413 million in box office receipts, Hungarian news agency MTI reported. On Friday, it broke the record for daily box office revenue and on Saturday, it broke the record for daily number of viewers on any day in Hungary, MTI added.
Earlier record viewer numbers were held by another Star Wars episode, “Revenge of the Sith”, which drew 244,444 movie-goers. The record in box office revenue was held by the recent film “The Minions”, which took in HUF 284 mln, MTI noted, adding that both these movies need four days to break records, while The Force Awakens hovered to the top in just three days.
The movieʼs opening also broke box office records in America and several other countries.
The latest episode in the Star Wars series is the first since George Lucas sold the franchise to Disney, and handed the lightsaber of directing the movie to renowned J.J. Abrams. Iconic stars from the first Star Wars movies also appear in the new movie, including Harrison Ford playing Han Solo, Mark Hamill as Luke Skywalker and Carrie Fisher as Princess Leia.
