Real estate developer SCD Holding Zrt plans to invest Ft 100 billion at its tourism properties around Lake Balaton over the next 7 years, CEO Gellért Jászai announced on Tuesday.
SCD is planning to carry out 28 projects in 21 towns around the lake, building accommodations with more than 20,000 beds, Jászai said. The company aims to boost the number of tourists at the facilities by 30%, while doubling the number of guest nights to 1.5 million. Jászai said SCD's developments would create 1,500-1,800 jobs and generate an annual Ft 8 billion-Ft 9 billion in tax revenue for the state and local councils.
Foreign guests spent 15% fewer nights at Lake Balaton in 2006, but Hungarian vacationers spent 9% more nights. The number of overall guest nights at spa hotels jumped 48% during the period, which helped boost combined revenue at all accommodations around Lake Balaton about 9%.
