Budapest Bank (GE Money Bank) has leased 4,600 square meters in the Csaba Center in Békéscsaba, southeast Hungary, and will open an operations center this June, international property consultancy Cushman & Wakefield, which acted for Budapest Bank in the transaction, announced.
The deal represents the largest office letting in Hungary outside Budapest to date. The lease contract was signed with Csaba Center in January and the office space is currently being reconfigured to meet Budapest Bank’s requirements.
As global real estate advisor for Budapest Bank’s parent company GE, Cushman & Wakefield participated in finding and acquiring the office space for the new operations center, and acted on the bank’s behalf in lease negotiations with the landlord.
“Together with GE’s corporate real estate department we looked at potential sites in Békéscsaba, Debrecen, Miskolc, Pécs and Szeged. Budapest Bank selected Békéscsaba for a number of factors, including immediate availability of suitable office accommodation with the potential for expansion, as well as a good pool of future staff for the operations center,” said Zsuzsa Fekete, associate in C&W’s Budapest Office Agency team.
According to information released by Budapest Bank, by the end of 2008 the bank’s operations center will provide over 500 jobs for the city, which has a population of 68,000.
