Transport workers threaten strike from mid-Jan

Unions representing employees of Budapest transport company BKV and the Volán nationwide bus companies are preparing for work stoppages from January 12, Népszabadság daily said on Monday.

Bus drivers are angry that they failed to secure the renewal of a collective agreement at the end of last year, and they are also unhappy about a recent pay cut, said the paper, citing a union official.

Railway workers are also threatening to hold a series of strikes, and employees of public television MTV have convened a strike committee to protest over pay, said the paper. (MTI)
