Tram line reconstruction starts in Nagykörút

The first phase of the reconstruction of Budapest's main tramline was launched by Budapest Deputy Mayor Pál Vajda on Tuesday.

The reconstruction project is expected to last until May 19, with the second phase to be completed between May 22 and June 9, during which trams are replaced by buses. Budapest transport company BKV Rt is rebuilding its tram stops to allow disabled passengers and parents with prams to enter and exit the new Siemens Combino trams through level accesses. The company will also make repairs to tracks, upgrade switches and renovate the power lines.
The new, 54-meter Combinos are expected to become real sights of the city, Vajda said.
