Hungary and Austria are to dispose over €101 million (about $148 million) on bilateral projects in the period until 2013, state secretary of the Municipal Affairs Ministry, István Újhelyi said in Oslip, near lake Fertő.
The cooperation program is meant to maintain Hungary and Austria’s economic, social, cultural and environmental relations and preserve the region’s competitiveness, Újhelyi said. The Hungarian state will cover €34.5 million ($50 6. million) to the program’s seven-year budget, while Austria is to contribute €48 million. The rest is to come from Austrian and Hungarian entrepreneurs. From Austria’s part, €29 million will be granted by federal county Burgenland, which directly borders Hungary. In cultural respects, 2009 will mark the 200th anniversary of composer Joseph Haydn’s passing; the Austrian organizers will involve Hungary in the programs. (Gazdasági Rádió)
