Almost Ft 2,000 billion worth of public procurements were made in Hungary in 2006, 30% more than in 2005, president of the Public Procurement Council Lajos Berényi said on Wednesday.
Simplified procedures were used to make public purchases worth about Ft 300 billion, Berényi said, noting that the final figures for these procedures would only be known in May. He said more EU funding boosted the value of public procurements, while slowing economic growth and government austerity measures had an opposite effect.
In 2007, the value of public procurements is expected to rise only slightly, Berényi said.
