Hungarian financial market regulator PSzÁF has no official knowledge of any political decision on a merger between it and the National Bank of Hungary, PSzÁF spokesman István Binder told MTI on Wednesday. Binder said PSzÁF had no information on any such decision from the central bank or the government. Neither of the two asked the regulator to cooperate in preparatory work for an eventual merger, he said. PSzÁF expresses its opinion and makes proposals in any issue affecting its tasks organization under the law, Binder noted. Internet portal origo.hu said on Tuesday preparations for the merger were underway, citing banking sources. Hungary earlier shelved the idea of a merger between the two after legislation on the central bank came under scrutiny.
