President László Sólyom has nominated Miklós Horányi for the post of Chief Public Prosecutor, the president's press officer Ferenc Weber said on Tuesday.
Current Prosecutor Péter Polt's term ends on May 16. Horányi's nomination requires the endorsement of Parliament. Horányi, 65, is chief prosecutor at the Chief Prosecutor's Office of Szeged. He was a criminal judge at the Supreme Court from 1979 to 1991 and held several legal consultancy positions at insurance companies between 1991 and 2000, before becoming head of the press office at the Chief Prosecutor's Office, a position he held until 2003.
