PM on Hungarian-Romanian business opportunities

The governments of Hungary and Romania must eliminate all obstacles to effective business cooperation, PM Ferenc Gyurcsány said at a meeting of Hungarian and Romanian businessmen yesterday.

"Our task is to make you successful. If you are successful, the two countries will be successful," Gyurcsány said at the meeting. Gyurcsány also talked of establishing a Ft 3-5 billion fund to assist SMEs to enter the Romanian market. Romanian PM Calin Popescu Tariceanu said improved political relations must be reflected in the business sector as well.

He added that Romanian companies would have the chance to go global when the country joins the EU on January 1, 2007. Tariceanu said Hungarian companies would find favorable conditions in Romania. He also gave a presentation of Romania's tax system. The country has a flat-rate income tax of 16%, the same as the corporate tax rate. (Econews, Népszava, Napi Gazdaság, Magyar Hírlap)
