Prime Minister Ferenc Gyurcsány announced on Tuesday a comprehensive action plan to guarantee swift and bureaucracy-free implementation of flood protection and recovery measures.
Under the plan, the finance minister must immediately satisfy financing requirements for flood protection and a Ft 300 million cash fund has been set up for emergency aid, Gyurcsány said. The upper limit of the budget allocation for flood protection has been lifted, he added. Subsidies for farmers will be transferred even if the arable land they use is covered by floods or inland waters and a Ft 40 billion preferential local scheme will be launched to help business organizations, local councils and individuals, Gyurcsány said. Also, of the 25,000 people employed in public labor programs, 20,000 will be transferred to flood protection work.
