Prime Minister Viktor Orbán has won Fidesz’s membership renewal congress with an overwhelming 99.7% and so remains the president of the party, online news portal Index.hu reported.
After the result of the voting had been announced, Orbán praised Fidesz’s honesty in his speech and said that his party dared to state the truth even at times when this approach led to losing elections. He also praised Fidesz’s recent achievements such as throwing back the baseless claims of policemen and firefighters as well as saying a “peaceful goodbye” to the IMF. Hungary now faces two options: total reforms or the Greek path, Orbán said. “We are at war with debt”, he added.
