New U.S. ambassador takes oath of office

Appointed by U.S. President George W. Bush three months ago to take over the embassy from 78-year-old George Herbert Walker, April Foley took her oath of office as the new U.S. Ambassador to Hungary yesterday at the Department of State in Washington, D.C. In other news, the embassy is planning to put an online system into operation for making visa interview appointments via the Internet to simplify the application procedure and reduce the costs of premium rate phone calls, currently the only channel open to visa applicants to set up a mandatory interview.
