More than half of EU funding for 2004-2006 period already paid out

About Ft 360 bln (€1.43 bln) of Ft 700 bln in funding available under the National Development Plan I, Hungary's framework for disbursing EU development funding in 2004-2006, has already been paid out, figures from the National Development Agency show.

Government commissioner in charge of development Gordon Bajnai said earlier that the percentage of EU development funding for 2004-2006 paid out in Hungary was higher than in any other new EU member with the exception of Slovenia. About 18,000 of 40,000 applications were approved for funding under the plan. The approved applications were related to projects worth a combined Ft 1,100 billion (€4.3 billion). SMEs won Ft 190 billion under the plan, local councils were awarded Ft 170 billion, non-government organizations received Ft 150 billion and churches were granted Ft 3.7 billion. Investments made under the plan supported the creation of more than 55,000 workplaces in 2004-2006. (Mti-Eco)
