The Hungarian Democratic Forum (MDF), the smaller parliamentary opposition party, will propose listing 10% of all state-owned companies on the Budapest Stock Exchange (BÉT), Kálmán Katona announced on Tuesday. The state-owned companies that would be listed include state lottery company Szerencsejáték Zrt, the Hungarian electricity works MVM Rt, postal company Magyar Posta Zrt and grain store Concordia Rt, Katona said.
At least 24 state-owned companies could be privatized in the next three years according to MDF. Listing the companies would make them more transparent, and would be an incentive to make them profitable, he said. It would also prevent the government from “awarding” executive posts and taking as much dividend as possible, he added.
