MDF decides on complete overhaul

The conservative MDF’s assembly has decided on a complete makeover, including its finances as well as the composition of its members. Party chairman Zsolt Makay told reporters that since his side lost its parliamentary mandate at the April general elections, the new management has been working intensively to reduce debt and has succeeded in lowering the total from HUF 230 million to HUF 180 million. The facelift will result in a new logo design and a new name for the party, Makay said. MDF was accordingly rebranded as Jólét és Szabadság (prosperity and liberty) or JESz. MDF has held a parliamentary mandate in every cycle since 1990 and has been in government twice, once in majority once in minority. After its cooperation with the currently governing Fidesz side worsened, it always managed to barely reach the thresholds for representation on its own. That was until the 2010 elections when the party dropped out and its management resigned. (BBJ)
