A study conducted in Bulgaria has found that more than half of pregnant women in the country continue to smoke.
Although the pregnant women were aware of the harm inflicted on their child, 64% failed to give up, with many claiming to cut down the number of cigarettes they smoke instead of completely stopping.
The research was carried out among female smokers between 22 and 53 years of age. Lack of will was the main factor that prevented pregnant women from giving up. Despite not having been able to stop smoking during their pregnancy, 90% of the women interviewed thought that Bulgaria should reduce smoking in public places. (ash.org)
