House Speaker László Kövér officially declared that the parliamentary caucus of the opposition green LMP was disbanded Thursday. The decision comes after internal disputes within LMP about approaching the next general elections in 2014 caused a rift between the members and compelled half of the parliamentary group to quit the party and form a platform of their own. Their decision took the LMP house group’s membership below the legally required minimum of 12 MPs. Lacking a caucus will mean LMP will have fewer opportunities to address parliament or query the government and will also lose some committee seats.
