Kuncze to privatize Szerencsejáték, Volán

Speaking in a televised interview early Thursday morning, Gábor Kuncze, the head of junior governing coalition partner SzDSz, included the recently spun-off freight division of Hungarian railway company MÁV Zrt, long-distance bus company Volán and state lottery company Szerencsejáték Zrt among state-owned companies which are unnecessary for the day-to-day operation of the state and should therefore be privatized.

The sale of these assets would save taxpayers money and it would prevent them from being used by politicians as toys, Kuncze said. He said a minority stake in Szerencsejáték could be sold on the stock exchange, or by selling a concession to the company's exclusive right to organize lotteries. "Privatization should not be stopped or closed, but continued and completed," Kuncze said.
