Iraqi PM in Russia to discuss oil projects

Iraqi Prime Minister Nouri Al Maliki is meeting Russian President Dmitry Medvedev and Prime Minister Vladimir Putin on Friday.

Russia is expected to push for a bigger role in Iraq’s oil industry during Al Maliki’s visit. Iraq is allowing Russian oil companies, including LUKoil, state-owned Rosneft and Tatneft, to bid for contracts to develop promising fields. LUKoil would like Iraq to honor a Saddam-era contract for the giant West Qurna field. (Gulf News)
