Hungary supports NATO enlargement

Hungary supports another wave of enlargement of NATO, which would boost stability and integration in the region, Foreign Minister Kinga Göncz said at a conference in Parliament on Friday.

An Alliance Summit to be held in Riga in November is expected to give a signal on NATO's stand on enlargement. Hungary will continue to participate in NATO's response force, which has just reached its full operational capability and is ready for fast deployment, Göncz said. She added that Hungary's most important mission was in Afghanistan, which will also be on the agenda of the Riga summit. Hungary is in command of a provincial reconstruction team (PRT) in Baghlan province in northern Afghanistan. She went on to say that Hungary supports the establishment of stronger ties between NATO and the European Union, as there is plenty of room to grow in strategic partnership.
