Hungary second biggest ICT exporter, OECD says

Hungary is the second biggest exporter of Information and Communication Technologies (ICT) as a proportion of GDP among OECD countries, but these technologies are still inaccessible to many Hungarians, Graham Vickery, who heads the OECD's Working Party on Indicators for the Information Society, said in Budapest on Wednesday.

Vickery noted that Hungary's ICT system is more advanced than many OECD countries, but the ICT sector had received relatively little attention in terms of R&D over the past several years. Undersecretary at the Ministry of Economy and Transport Ábel Garamhegyi reaffirmed the ministry's commitment to encouraging ICT developments in both the public and private sectors. He added that Hungary needed to train more IT professionals as there was currently a shortage of them.
The OECD's latest report on the ICT sector projects the industry will grow 6% in 2006.
